Drawfriend Doodle-Roundup #2

I'm not really sure why I titled my original post on this blog as a 'Drawfriend Roundup'... I guess it's because all the art I posted I had previously submitted to EqD's Drawfriend (though only about half of them were actually featured). So even if it's not strictly true, for the sake of continuity I suppose I'll title this similarly.

Anyway though! Just a bunch of random pony doodles, most of which I sketched over the past couple days and colored last night. None of them are much artistically-speaking but then, I guess that's why I call them doodles.

PinkieDash shipping, you say? Well, maybe not necessarily, even though that pairing is rather cute when I think about it, I suppose. But in all honesty this idea just came to me, entirely devoid of context so I'll leave that up to each of you to interpret.

I suppose "meh" says it all, doesn't it? Just a quick Rarity doodle, looking bored (but still fabulous, of course).

...Yeah, I'm not really sure what I was thinking either. o_o It just came to me. To be honest I really don't love this picture, even for a doodle it irks me somehow but perhaps somepony else will enjoy it! Perhaps...

Okay I will not lie... I actually made this picture last week but didn't post it because I didn't like it! And I still don't, but again maybe somepony else will... hopefully anyway.

Haha... I really can't help myself. Give me any length of time and tell me to draw ponies and sooner or later (usually sooner) you shall get Applejack and Rarity. I really can't say for certain what's going on in this little scene for those who are curious... again, interpret it as you will. ;)

And that's all for now dearies! More to come soon enough though, including a special piece I've had in the works for someone. Until then~ ^_^

@Favo

Well thank you dear, glad you enjoyed them then. ^_^

And oh... well I suppose I can certainly try, anyway! Hmm... do you have any prior art instruction whatsoever? I mean, just so that I know where to begin you see...

One thing I used to do as a child when I was learning to draw new characters was trace them from existing images so I could get comfortable with their proportions and such, and then I'd move onto putting them into my own poses. I'm not sure if you've tried that already, but if not it may help some.

I always get happy whenever I notice that you've posted up more art. :D

I've never been a huge fan of PinkieDash shipping, but you sure do make them look cute together.

And I suppose Fluttershy would liek mudkipz. ;P

Looking forward to seeing what that "special piece" is going to be about. ^_^

It's not hard to show Pinkie's personality, but you TOTALLY nailed it 100% in that first one. Even Dash is like "Jesus Pinkie Pie, calm down." I adore your characterizations.

Rarity lookin' gangsta as ****. Requesting a duckface, because duckface Rarity is best Rarity. :P

I will probably never stop seeing this image around /co/ now. Thanks.

More fillies! Yay~! Such a tomboy, that Rainbow Dash.

And here's what she was looking at.

Great round-up! As always, you really put the character first in these. Show these to a group of people who've never seen MLP before and even THEY would be able to tell you each pony's personality. Way to keep up the quality! :D

@BND

Oh, really? Well yay, that in turn makes *me* happy! ^.^ Thank you!

In regards to PinkieDash shipping, as I said the picture doesn't necessarily have to represent that (interpret it as Pinkie just being enthusiastic over-the-top-Pinkie if you like, it works equally well!). Aside from Rarijack (*cough*) I'm not much of a big shipper either, so yes.

And who wouldn't like Mudkips, really... they are quite lovable.

Oh, and regarding the "special" picture it's nothing too extravagant or sensational; just a commission piece I've been working on is all! I'd hate to have gotten your hopes up prematurely. <=) But hopefully you will like it well enough anyway.

@Pogosama

Such lovely feedback as always, thank you my dear! ^.^ I am glad you enjoy the doodles. You bring up an interesting mention of my pics showing up on 4chan; I suppose they would, too (I've never been there before, you see)! That's pretty funny when I think about it. And you and your "duckface Rarity", hahaha... I suppose I shall have to do one of those someday.

And, I have no idea how you found that 'apple jacket' picture but that is absolutely hilarious; I WANT that now! Goddess knows I don't need it but I'm sure Applejack would secretly approve... *snicker*

Thanks again for the lovely reply. ^.^

I actually saw your Rainbow Dash on the cloud picture on 4chan not an hour after it hit drawfriends. People are sharing it out there, even if it is anonymously. More then the people following this blog have saved it, it's a really good piece. :D

@WhiteDiamonds

Well, I never said that I didn't like any forms of shipping; I'm a rather avid Rarishy fan myself. :P

Indeed they are. :D

And it doesn't matter how extravagant it may be, I'm sure that it will be nice. ^_^

Also, what Favo said. :P

Oh god, my heart. That Pinkie/Dash pic is just too cute. But it's ruining Dashie's tough girl image, lol.

@Favo

Oh, I didn't mean it in a bad way. But the eye-rolling may indicate Dash is somewhat disgruntled about what news of this getting out will do for her badass persona. Especially that she liked it, lol.

It must be pretty hard as it is, building up a tough image while trapped in those adorable, plushie-esque bodies.

WhiteDiamonds said... Reply to comment

@Pogosama

Yes it doesn't really surprise me about 4chan, I'd just never thought about it before is all. But it's a good thing as long as people get to see (and hopefully enjoy) my work as, once again, that the whole reason I make it!

@Favo

I certainly will do so, even if this sometimes takes me some time (like with darling little Dash) as I try to convince myself they're not SO terrible I can't post them online, haha. I get fussy with my work that way sometimes, but I appreciate your feedback, thank you. ^_~

@DJB123

Haha well yay, glad they brought you some enjoyment then my friend. ^.^ Thanks for commenting!

@BND

Which would well explain your icon I suppose. ;) And thank you for the support, I appreciate it!

@andrew0383

Heheh I am very glad you enjoyed that so; thanks for sharing your comments!

That may just be the best thing I've read all week; thank you for that. <3

I was on the fence about following this blog. Then those pics...

I guess there was never really a chance of me not following

A couple of these images, I can understand why you think they aren't up to your usual standards, but they're still definitely good enough to share. Even the filly Rainbow Dash, which you seem to think is the weakest of this collection, is so over-the-top cute that it's a fun doodle, and I like her mane and tail, as well as the ridiculously oversized eyes.

For the first image, I can easily see that happening after Dashie brings some flour to Sugarcube Corner; Pinkie's just the type to give that sort of enthusiastic thank-you for such a routine task, which would of course embarrass overachieving Rainbow Dash.

That Rarity drawing is great; wonderful expression, complemented by the cool blue background.

While I like the Fluttershy drawing, I agree there's some small something that bothers me about it, maybe the exaggerated manga-style mouth. On the other hand, you've captured her body language perfectly, and I love her larger-than-normal eyes, which convey her joyous excitement at finding a cute new critter.

And you know to finish on a high note; Applejack's expression is priceless, and Rarity's laugh makes you wonder if she's responsible.

@Hio590

Oh, well thank you so much for that... I truly appreciate the kind sentiments. <=) Hopefully I'll be able to make your following worthwhile!

@jodyjm13

Ugh you are so right... I really am not happy with them. :( Even still they are needling at me, making me wonder if I should have posted them after all. But apparently people are getting at least some enjoyment out of them, which I'm trying to focus on instead, and not to mention this is supposedly good for me (since as I am told, I need to learn to relax and not let my overwhelming perfectionism constantly govern my actions, meh..).

But I digress. I very much appreciate your comments as usual, and wholeheartedly agree with your constructive criticism of Fluttershy (thanks for that, by the way... honesty is always much appreciated). And of course I am glad you like most of them well enough! *bows*

Pogosama said... Reply to comment

Idk if you saw the new episode yet, but they kept dropping that duckface Rarity.

....

Just thought you should know...you know...in case you haven't seen it.

Because it was there. On her face. Like a duck. : l

Yep.

WhiteDiamonds said... Reply to comment

@Pogosama

I did indeed see it. And I thought of you immediately!

@Kateasaurus

Ah yes, hello my dear! I certainly remember you and your darling Gala Fluttershy plushie; I guess I didn't realize you had a blog as well. On that note I shall have to follow you now in turn (we pony fanartists really ought to stick together you know).

Oh and thank you for the lovely sentiments, by the way, glad you enjoy! ^.^

@Favo
@Pogosama

Yes, yes, it seems a fabulously pouty duckface shall indeed be in order at some point in the future. Like I needed an excuse to draw more Rarity fanart anyway.

@Frankensteinbeck

Okay, now see, this is exactly why I prefer to let people draw their own conclusions, bwahaha. I get far too much enjoyment out of seeing some of the things people come up with... =^.^=

Kateasaurus said... Reply to comment

@WhiteDiamonds I agree! We all need to stick together. :D

Thanks for the follow! I can't wait to see more of your stuff! ^_^

Oh Rainbow, why so serious :)

Nice to see more of your art :)

BND said... Reply to comment

@Kateasaurus
Oh wow, I was actually monitoring that plushie on eBay; Cool to know that you made it. ^_^

Consider yourself followed (both on deviantArt and your blog. :P)

Kateasaurus said... Reply to comment

@BND Yay! Thanks! ^_^

I apologize beforehand for some long-winded posts. I tend to ramble...

But I'm doing a lot of painting this week waiting for my fabric shipment, so there will at least be some pony influx this week. :P

WhiteDiamonds said... Reply to comment

@Kateasaurus

You are quite welcome, and thanks in turn! As I said, I very much look forward to seeing more of your work. ^_^

@L4m3ness

Heheh, I think andrew0383 above called it when he said she's doing her best to maintain her swag reputation. ;) Silly Rainbow.

And thank you!

Forderz said... Reply to comment

With every post my excitement builds...

I really appreciate you sharing even your unliked pieces.

Even if it does make me feel woefully inferior.

WhiteDiamonds said... Reply to comment

@Forderz

Oh no please don't feel that way, and certainly not on my account. Everybody does have their own strengths and talents in life after all (for instance, I am painfully horrid with any mathematics outside of some geometry, and am frequently baffled by some of the least-sophisticated modern technologies) so yes... we all have a niche.

And thank you! I hope it's not horribly teasing of me to say that I've begun some sketching, though it's been a bit slow-going so far. But I have high hopes for the eventual finished product!

CaineScroll said... Reply to comment

Wow. Just...wow.
Your stuff had a really individualistic depth to it that I couldn't ignore. And I ignore a lot of art. (okay, not IGNORE, but I don't really comment =P)
I'm an amateur digital artist with no prior knowledge of shading and toning whatsoever. The best I've done so far is to imitate the art style if the show itself (colored lines, flat colors,etc.). I'd really, REALLY appreciate some pointers on this because they don't exactly come easily in google...please help <=[

WhiteDiamonds said... Reply to comment

@CaineScroll

Hello there! First off I would like to thank you so much for your lovely comments... they really do mean a lot to me. And secondly, regarding your inquiry I'm not sure exactly how much help I can be but I'm more than willing to try, of course...

You say you are an amateur digital artist? Do you have any experience with any traditional media, or in other words any prior art experience to speak of? Color theory is such a hugely expansive and imperative subject in art that I'm really not even sure where to begin, but I guess asking about the experience that you do have so far is the best way I can think of, my apologies...

You don't happen to have a deviantART account by any chance, do you? Because I used to and I know there are a number of excellent tutorials on a vast array of artistic topics, including quite a thorough one by a former acquaintance of mine. If you'd like I can try and dig up some links for you, also.

CaineScroll said... Reply to comment

I'm quite fresh in the digital art business, but I've been drawing pencil art for almost ten years now, and I'm not too shabby there. But still, not much good it'll do if I'm venturing into digital art.

And yes, I do have a dA account: http://connorgrayson.deviantart.com/

Really do appreciate the help! =D

WhiteDiamonds said... Reply to comment

@CaineScroll

Oh, yes I see, you most definitely do some very lovely art! Those pencil works are quite gorgeous, and indeed just as good if not better than what I'd say I can do. I understand color is a whole different entity from pencil/greyscale works, but you certainly have a good foundation for shading and whatnot so I think you'll pick it up well enough without too much difficulty.

On that note, I found the tutorial by that artist friend of mine (or acquaintance I suppose, though I did have the opportunity to meet her in real life and discuss art which was lovely)... I'm sure once you take even a passing glance at her gallery you'll agree she's a far more talented and capable artist than I am! Her tutorial on color is excellent and actually won a Daily Deviation... you can find it here and I'm sure it will be far more of a help to you than I could ever hope to be.

Of course, if you did have any other questions or anything you think I might be able to help with, please don't hesitate to ask. Let me know how it goes for you!
