A Little Announcement: deviantART

Aheh, well yes, I was planning on making this announcement this morning, which I thought would be within a perfectly reasonable time frame but apparently, the internet moves even faster than I was initially thinking and many of you it seems are already aware. ^_^; As of yesterday I finally have a deviantART page for the purpose of displaying my pony-arts!

I think you all know that I've been very hesitant to do this for a long time, but yesterday AtomicGreymon was kind enough to let me know that a certain individual on dA had taken my steampunk Rarity painting, digitally removed my signature and replaced it with his own, and had posted the work in his own gallery. Art theft is sadly a relatively common thing and while it's possible to report it to deviantART staff without an account, it certainly lends some weight to the matter and makes it much easier, and so at last I consented to give in and just do it. And, figuring that this was perhaps the universe's/fate's/destiny's way of trying to push me in a certain direction, I decided to get my artwork up as well (something which I'm still working on doing). Unfortunately, as of now it seems that my initial misgivings were quite justified and despite the fact that I was online responding to comments until four in the morning, I returned to the page a little while ago to discover hundreds and hundreds of messages already waiting for me... well, I'm going to do my best to not let myself get too overwhelmed anyway. ^.^;;

I did want to reassure you all that despite the fact I will have a gallery up there now, I will continue to prioritize this blog and am planning on uploading all of my new work here first. As well of course, to get back to all of my comments since they (and all of you who regularly follow me) are the reason I've kept this blog up as much as I have. ^_^ And yes, as I said on my last post hopefully I will have some new work for you all soon enough... until then, cheers loves! <3

You really are a sneaky one...

Hate to hear about the attempted art theft. Truly a weaselly thing for anyone to do, and hopefully that can be straightened out. In any event, I'm not the least surprised that your arrival on Deviant Art has been met with much rejoicing. I'd go and comment over there, but it seems like that would be overburdening you. I'd be more than happy to give you a llama though... I've got a bunch just cluttering up the place.

And I cannot express how much I love the sketch of Rarity sneaking marshmallows with a guilty look over her shoulder. That just killed me.

I was excited to see you joined! Although I will most likely stalk around here still. (I'm avoiding a few stalker types on dA, and try to keep a low profile other than adding favorites and responding to notes.) Still, it's nice to see you getting more recognition for your fabulous artwork!

I also printed out your Spitfire piece (used my *good* paper too) and framed it! It's residing next to the pony shelf (shrine) in my room. I absolutely adore it! (I've already said this many times, but it deserves to be restated.)

Anywho... Welcome to DA! Hopefully no one else tries to pass of your work as their own, or I will sick my nasty internet tough-guy side on them!

Oh, and here's a fun little bit of synchronicity... Last week I started reading "Growing Pains", which the author is apparently editing and posting over on FimFiction for the first time, and just yesterday I got to the chapters where Rarity and AJ started interacting ("Do the sexy voice again"), including the hat-stealing scene on the dragon, and I thought to myself "White Diamonds would really get a kick out of these bits."

And then today I check out your Deviant Art blog and see that not only did you already read that story, but you've done fan art inspired by it. (I'm sure I read that fact before when I originally looked at that picture on your blog, but as I had no familiarity with "Growing Pains" at the time, the detail didn't stick with me.)

Caught me off guard. ;-)

I'm sorry about the art theft. As a friend (and as an intellectual property attorney) I find such acts truly despicable, lowest of the low behavior.

On a happier note, now your star can shine all across the internet. Enjoy tons and tons (and tons) of praise, requests, and llamas.

Have fun and good luck!

I had actually noticed the art theft yesterday; I reported it and everything, but it still bothers me that people even feel the need to do such a thing. :L

Anyways, I'm happy to see that you joined, and yes, it can get very active over there. :P
Probably a good idea not to let it overwhelm you. ^^;

Also, I loved all of the art you posted a few days ago (sorry I'm only getting around to saying that now XP)

But yes, I hope that your foray into dA is at least a pleasant one. :P

CaineScroll said... Reply to comment

Well, I've already left you a comment on dA, but I think it's best to say something here now that this particular post is up!

It's nice to see you on dA at last, though I have to admit that the rate at which the watchers' list grows is a little bit frightening (if you know what I mean). I mean, 290+ watchers in a couple of hours? Wow. Personally I don't have any stalkers (thankfully), but a few people on dA have already found my lack of attention a little strange, and quite frankly I have to agree with them. T_T

I'm sorry to hear about the art theft, that's only for faceless mannequins who want to get insta-famousness (is that a word?) the easy way. These people simply do not understand how an artist puts his/her heart and soul into the picture they make, and it's saddening, really. I mean, I'm still a faceless mannequin but I try to make myself known the honest way.

I'll also try to comment much more frequently from now on, as I find I'm always late to the party these days! And also, it was nice to see this particular Rarity doodle of yours again, it would probably be in my favourites list if it were coloured!

In all, welcome (back) to dA! And as Katie said, if anyone tries to attempt plagiarism of your work again, we'll be the first to high-five the bloke. In the face. With a chair. ~_^

Can I just summarise this in two (five?) words:

Yay! (deviantART!)
Boo! (art theft!)

"Unfortunately, as of now it seems that my initial misgivings were quite justified and despite the fact that I was online responding to comments until four in the morning"

That's what I was afraid of. (I may have stayed up until 5:00 last night for my last comment, but that's different. I get up later than you do.)

The thing about DA accounts is that, if you have a large following, you need to let go of the urge to respond to every one. Harwick's "Know When to Fold 'Em" has 539 comments. You don't see MicTheMicrophone or JohnJoseco responding to every comment on their work that they receive. It isn't just impractical; it's impossible. The most you could do is skim over some of the more recent comments on occasion and possibly respond to the ones that catch your eye. It's like CaineScroll's ask blog (unless he suddenly has as much time as the artist that makes Dr. Adorable). I'm not telling you to completely ignore your gallery and the comments left on it. I'm just saying that if it stays as popular as it is now, you won't have a choice.

I admit that I have gone and read through all the replies you have made to others though, simply because I enjoy your personality even if the messages were not directed to me. ("I try not to let my imagination get to that point. Too much anyway...") There isn't much more that I can say about it, since I don't have a DA account or any real reason to create one, so all I can say is that of course I'm very grateful that you're still going to give attention to your blog...even if you bothered to respond to such a "drive-through" (terminology courtesy of CaineScroll) comment as "awesome". If you didn't, my tone would be much worse. (Which would be saying something, as I already sound quite devoid of excitement or joyfulness in comparison to everyone else here. If I'm ever depressed while writing a comment, you probably would never know.)

@CaineScroll

Just because you don't have as much fame as WhiteDiamonds does not make you such a thing as a "faceless mannequin". You have more personality than most people you could find in galleries. Even among artists.

Seems you making your dA account has caused a bit of a commotion!

*insert long time listener, first time caller line here*

I didn't even know you had a blog until a few days ago and I've been admiring your handiwork in the EQD Drawfriends for quite a while now. To think I once considered myself internet savvy...

Anywho, just have to say, your art is amazing. You're style is probably my favorite out of all the current pony fandom artists.

In relation to current events, you have my apologies on the theft of your artwork. That is quite caddish behavior and I hope dA rectifies it forthwith.

As for you getting your own dA account? I don't think there's anything to say that other commenters haven't already. The picture linked by Kateasaurus I think sums things up nicely.

Let the floodgates open...

It looks like you're getting swamped with attention on dA already; I hope you're not feeling too overwhelmed by it all. *^^* I'm thinking it might be for the best if I wait a few more days for the initial rush to die down before I fave and comment on all your drawings that you've uploaded so far. I confess I'm not really sure what the deal is with llamas, but since you gave me one I have repaid the favor, the first llama I've ever given in fact.

I'm sorry that it was less-than-pleasant circumstances that led to your opening a new dA account, but I do hope you enjoy it nonetheless.

WhiteDiamonds said... Reply to comment

@Harwick

What, me? Sneaky how! I'll confess that I didn't let you all know immediately, but at the same time I didn't anticipate my deviantART watches, messages, and so on exploding the way that they have either. I have really, truly, and most sincerely been blown away by the incredible reception that I have thus far received, to put it mildly...

But it's okay, people really do seem to be happy about the fact don't they! And I must thank you for the llama Harwick-dear, as well as let you know that I very much value your posts of welcome despite the overwhelming influx of messages I've had to sort through. Hearing from you is always a delight. *^_^*

Bwahaha, "sexy voice", I actually forgot about that particular bit until you said that! And yes, I had read much of that story and enjoyed those scenes, especially the one you mentioned with the dragon and where the two of them were fighting about the blanket (so hilarious), though I confess I'm not up to speed on the story currently. I'll need to make an effort to catch up again soon, if I can find the time that is... (seems... doubtful...)

Oh yes, and as CaineScroll mentioned that particular little doodle of Rarity is quite old, though prior to now I had only ever posted her amidst a bunch of links to random arts of mine (and in one of those massive rambling threads of comments on one of my older blog posts too), so it's no wonder that you might have missed her. Mmmmm, marshmallows!

@Kateasaurus

Oh, my Goddess, that link... o_o I... don't even know what to think, I am not going to lie..!

Truly, all of this just boggles the mind and in all honestly I don't even know what to feel about it at this point... I'm a simple freelance artist and designer who talks to her cat while she's home alone working all day, who happens to draw cartoon ponies in her free time when she's watching her soap opera reruns and now all of a sudden it seems like everywhere I go people know my name! I had no idea that my artwork was seemingly so well known, but now I really do suspect that some of the people on dA must have been waiting around for me to make an account, going by this response! It is... quite a surreal feeling, honestly...

But anyway, it's all good; I shall continue to conduct myself with perfect poise and will get around to responding to all of my messages eventually, no doubt! Or at least I'll keep telling myself that for now. In other news dearest, as if your new avatar (meep! <3) wasn't enough, you went and printed that picture out and framed it!? Thank you so much for that, and for sharing the fact with me! ^.^ I'm just thrilled that you enjoyed it so much, honestly... it means a lot to me to hear.

I'm truly sorry about the fact that you've been having to deal with that regrettable situation on deviantART, but as I mentioned in passing to CaineScroll I'm afraid I can relate to your troubles somewhat, and in any case want to assure you that it's quite alright if you don't get back to any messages or whatnot I might have left you. As I said I do still intend to prioritize this blog, and it's arguably more pleasant anyway to be able to interact with you here where we can ramble about whatever inane topics as much as we like, and have some real conversations. You know.

Thank you again for all of the happy thoughts, love! <3

WhiteDiamonds said... Reply to comment

@PonydoraPrancypants

Thank you very much for the well-wishes! I think you've seen first-hand exactly the sort of overwhelming response that I'm speaking of, but as I said I'm doing my best to focus on the positive parts of the experience. Certainly everyone's enthusiasm has been a huge and welcome surprise to me so far!

And again, I must thank you also for your concern and looking out for my well-being regarding that art theft, my friend. Truth be told, part of me feels sorry for people who do such things because I imagine they feel it's the only way to receive any sort of attention, which they apparently are desperate for. If somebody is stealing work from the header of an EqD Drawfriend post and claiming it as their own, I can't imagine they'd really believe they'd be able to get away with it, after all.

But anyhow yes, my thanks again. I also appreciate the good luck wishes... by the looks of things I'm going to need them!

@BND

Hello dear, and thank you so much for that! I'm surprised that so many people seemingly saw that art theft (and were thoughtful enough to report it on my behalf), as I didn't think it had been up there for much longer than a day... I guess it must have gotten around far more quickly than I had ever imagined it could have.

At least the whole mess has been cleared up now, thankfully. And yes, considering I had a deviantART account before I'm aware of how demanding they can be (hence my reluctance to sign up for so long), but whatever response I had anticipated receiving pales in comparison to the reality of the matter. As you said though, all I can do is methodically deal with messages and not let them overwhelm me due to sheer volume alone! As tempting as it my be to panic instead.

Oh yes, and I almost forgot but thank you very much for the praise on all of my recent artworks as well; I'm very glad you enjoyed them! ^_^

WhiteDiamonds said... Reply to comment

@CaineScroll

We've now had a chance to message each other of course, but all the same I very much appreciate the reply dear, thank you! I'll have to agree with your thoughts about my deviantART watchers, except on the account that it's a little bit frightening--I find it extremely so, actually. While I'm obviously aware that many people have been asking me to make an account for a while, I truthfully never expected any sort of reaction like the one I've gotten thus far... it's really all I've been able to do to keep from avoiding looking at my message box at times, hah!

But anyhow I suppose I'll adjust eventually, and anticipate things getting a little bit easier to manage once this initial excitement calms down some. After all, I've uploaded a great deal of art in a short amount of time and that always accounts for a large volume of hits, but once I've gotten everything I've done to date up in my gallery I can't imagine things will continue to move at such a pace. At least, I rather hope not.

As with everyone else I very much appreciate your support in the matter of the unfortunate art theft, and am just thankful that the whole matter has now been resolved and that I don't have to worry about it anymore. Also, it seems a lot of people are quite fond of that particular little Rarity of mine... I might have to make the effort to color her one of these days after all.

@zhoomcar

Well I guess that does sum everything up quite nicely doesn't it? ^.^ Even if I'm not entirely sure that I'm in the "yay" camp regarding deviantART just yet, but we shall see how things pan out once the fact that I made an account isn't (apparently, anyway) such big news anymore!

zhoomcar said... Reply to comment

@WhiteDiamonds
Okay, revision two for extra effect!
Yay? (deviantART!)
Boo! (art theft!)

WhiteDiamonds said... Reply to comment

@Anon

That's what I was afraid of too my dear, and as I've said time and time again was the reason that I was so reluctant to sign up for all these months. I knew that getting my pony-arts up into a gallery would make demands on my free time, even if in this instance my expectations have fallen a little short of the mind-blowing reality. However, as I said to CaineScroll I don't anticipate things continuing at this pace for forever, since I've been very busy getting all of my work to date uploaded and that always accounts for a great deal of initial traffic and feedback messages.

Also, it's probably not as bad as you think it is, because unlike on this blog (and emails, and things of that nature) my responding to most dA comments doesn't take up a whole lot of my time. Most people leave one-sentence or even one-word comments, and it's easy enough to reply with something equally brief, provided I feel I can do so in a polite fashion while still addressing whatever point someone was trying to make (and yes on that note, I'm glad you enjoyed reading my comments, including that particular one you mentioned. I hope you can forgive me if what is oftentimes my dry, and occasionally even snarky sense of humor sometimes manages to get the better of me).

So yes, I really do hope you won't worry too much about the matter dear, because that's the last thing I ever wanted when I decided to give in and finally make that account. My heart and soul have very much been invested in this blog and all of you as time has gone on, and I can't imagine I would ever want that to change~ **digital hugs!** ^_^

Well, good evening! I don't believe we've met before, but thank you very much for dropping by my page, and for (seemingly, anyway) sharing an interest in my artwork! ^_^

@Coconutswallow

Oh another new face, hello! I must thank you most sincerely for your kind words to me, as well, of course, for your interest in my work. I'm not surprised that you haven't stumbled across my blog until now because apparently, I've been happily existing in a little internet bubble here until two days ago (without ever knowing it), and don't worry at all dearie as you couldn't possible be any less internet-savvy than I am, of that I assure you. ^_^;

Thank you also for your sentiments regarding that art-thief, and concerning the matter I'm happy to say that the individual ended up taking the picture down on his own accord, though it's somewhat disheartening for me to know that he's left free to potentially do the same thing to other artists (as apparently, mine was not the only stolen image he had posted in his gallery). I sent him a note though (a very respectful one, I will add), and can only hope that he might now try spending his time bettering his own work, so that he doesn't feel the need to take credit for someone else's ever again.

In any case though yes, thank you once again for your very kind comments regarding me and my work. I can only hope you find my future fanarts to be equally as enjoyable!

WhiteDiamonds said... Reply to comment

@Favo

Oh darling there you are; I never know when you're going to turn up these days but it's always a pleasure to see you, of course! Thank you very much for stopping by and taking the time to post!

Ahhh yes, you and Anon both seem to be in agreement on the matter it seems, and perhaps you both really do have a point. A large part of me has inwardly been insisting that I can still manage to respond to all of my comments, but the fact that they don't look like they'll be slowing down any time in the immediate future now has me wondering. In any case I do have a day off tomorrow, and though a good part of it will be spent working on artwork and handling other tasks that need to be done, we'll see if I can't manage to make a considerable dent in my inbox tally as well.

Anyway though dear thank you again for all of the well-wishes and support and all that... I do appreciate it and I hope you know that. And you're watching me on dA now, are you? Well now it's just a matter of me finding you, though something tells me that might just be an impossible task... ^_~

@jodyjm13

Joooody~! Good evening my friend! ^.^ It always is such a pleasure to hear from you I hope you know. I'm afraid to say, as you might have gathered from my above posts as well perhaps from some of my dA comments, that I am a bit overwhelmed by all this attention of the past two days (or okay, decidedly overwhelmed if I'm being perfectly honest), but yes as you said it hasn't been an altogether unpleasant experience, and it's genuinely very nice to hear that so many people have been enjoying my work.

Haha llamas... it's especially funny to me as Harwick and I had only recently been discussing the matter, and ironically enough mere days before the subject became all too relevant to me once again. I do thank you for the gesture though. And speaking of things that don't really make sense I have to wonder what it is exactly I just watched courtesy of your link... in those getups those three remind me altogether of a particular "eccentric" mariachi band that used to perform at a Mexican restaurant my mother used to drag me off to, on Sunday mornings whenever she decided we were due for another "machaca and margaritas" brunch. Good times... ^^;;

@zhoomcar

Haha yes, I'd say that's about the size of it after all! ^^

CaineScroll said... Reply to comment

@WhiteDiamonds

Seeing as I've never received a huge amount of watches and comments in one go, I'll have to take your word for it...Still, I can't help but wonder if you didn't expect it at all? I think that with the attention you're getting on your blog alone, the reaction you're getting now should be somewhere in the "possible" category, if not "probable"!

Hehe, I doubt that the euphoria will die down anytime soon, seeing that most people have been stalking you on dA even before you had an account there *chuckles*. And besides, your fans'll be fired up again anyway once a new picture gets posted. Trust me on this one.

I can't deny that art theft is a serious offence when it comes to art; the culprits are often hard to catch and this gives them the confidence to steal again. It doesn't help that dA's help desk takes a painfully long time to respond to any reports...the heckler case earlier this year took them two months to reply.

On a happier note, I'm glad your art theft problem's solved, and honestly I really do look forward to Rarity colored~! ^_^

PS: To those who don't follow my blog, new post up if you're interested~! =D

@WhiteDiamonds

*whipcrack*

I happened to check on Reddit just to see what they were talking about. It seems that all of your work is being uploaded at once, and people are getting angry at other people because they won't stop posting WhiteDiamonds. I'm sure you know, I wish I was you. But then, many people do.

I wonder... Since everyone you speak to suddenly becomes in the possession of several deer, parhaps I could exchange some for Harwick's llamas, and with the combined strength of my deer and llama army, we could overthrow ponykind and take our rightful place in the seat of Equestrian (or Artiodactylian, as it will be known) royalty. I would rise to my title of Llama Lord and rename Ponyville to "Llamaland". It is foolproof! (At this rate, I'll be the villain in season 3.)

As for your last point, well...rule #394 of social awkwardness dictates that thou must express thouself only in images, and the best one I could find was this one-sided .gif. Humans are not nearly as huggable as ponies unfortunately, but we aren't really taking on any physical form here, so imagination makes up for that. In any case, to whatever extent that I am willing to admit, I do share your feelings... It's sort of amazing how much you (I) might care for someone who you (I) know so little about. I guess what really matters is what type of person you are, and how much you are willing to give back. All I'm really doing here is typing out my thoughts and kidding myself that anyone would want to read them. (Not fishing for compliments. I have nothing against the two, but at a distance, I think my comments like a mix of those of AtomicGreymon and Frankensteinbeck.) As long as you continue to prioritize this blog, I will continue to harbor the guilt and greed of taking the attention of such a rewarding light in a vast sea of darkness. I may not know how well I can send digital hugs, or awkward horn-stabbing pony-snuggles, or whatever the case may be, but I will do my best to reflect a small fraction of what this blog is worth, and what it means to me that someone like you would give such effort to make it all that it is for a simple wandering stranger. (That goes for all of you here...but WhiteDiamonds is still best pony. But that's okay; soon, I will be best Artiodactyl and you all will be jealous.)

Most would just keep their immediate feelings to a single line, but I guess I like to keep it vague.

We have had a lot of birthdays lately, and still, you two manage to keep up with them and make sure that no one is forgotten about. This community can do more than just discuss episodes and ramble about ponies. It is talented and productive. To see that its members can do so much as create art for eachother for simple things as birthdays only shows how capable they are. The fast-paced feeling of progress that surrounds this blog makes it almost like a dream. Almost, because we only have two very active contributers, and I cannot be not one of them. Even so, the artists here are impressively thoughtful with their care and efforts. You never cease to remind me why I want to learn to do the same.

Hopefully, that additional detail will help make my recent thoughts of this place a bit less vague and more understandable. There is so much well-deserved generousity to be witnessed at the moment that I find it hard to keep the description short. This blog is becoming something much more than an art blog. There is almost always something new here to be seen. I can hardly imagine a better place to start out in digital art.

Ah yes, that odd little clip is one of my favorite Monty Python skits, just because it's so perfectly random. It's also the reason I have to fight the impulse to shout "¡Cuidado llamas!" any time I see a llama (which is more often than you'd think, given that I live in the mountains of southwest Virginia).

WhiteDiamonds said... Reply to comment

@CaineScroll

While I realize that you wrote this comment several days ago, before things had gotten even crazier the answer to your question is no, I honestly did not expect a response quite like the one I've been receiving! I knew of course that many people have expressed interest in my making an account for quite some time and thought there might be an initial influx but even still, the reality of what's been going on over there is absolutely insane and far beyond my anything I expected... I guess I shouldn't have uploaded so many of my pieces at once but at least I've learned my lesson on that front now!

I think you're right about dA's response time and such having a lot to do with the problem of art theft on the site, and I had no idea that you'd been forced to deal with the problem for so long when that one person was giving you a hard time, I'm so sorry to hear that! Thankfully at least both of our respective situations are now in the past, and I can only hope it stays that way.

@Anon

Ah yes, I did know about that account of Favo's but didn't think it was the one he had used to follow me... I never saw anything that resembled his Blogger username in my message box when I got received that influx of watchers the other day (and bless all of those people, they are so immensely supportive). Knowing him I figured he probably has several! Thank you very much for making that effort though.

I realized that about Reddit courtesy of sellyme being so kind as to link me on the other thread, and am glad the torrent of redundant posts didn't make people despise me or my artwork as I would have thought they might do! I'm truly not sure if you really wished you were me though, as I can tell you in all honesty that it hasn't been very easy managing all of this the past few days... I've been getting by on very little sleep trying to keep up with it all (even resorting to caffeine some work days despite my better judgment), and even had to decline an online brony radio program's offer to interview me the other day (I am not joking in the slightest, can you even believe that?). As flattering as all of the attention is, and as thankful as I am for the support it is a LOT to deal with, I assure you.

In any case though, as I'm sure you already know I very much appreciate all of your usual kind sentiments, and return them back to you 100% dear (well, with the exception of all of that regarding llama-land and such; I'm still not sure if I followed you entirely there!). You really are far too good to me. <3

Eeep, darling, thank you so very much for sharing that with me; really I can hardly tell you how much it means to me to see such a thing and know that you enjoyed your artwork so much! It's like a fabulous early birthday-present for me, so lovely! <3

And haha well yes, I'll confess that in a way I almost find the dA response to be amusing as well, if only because it's so incredibly crazy that it defines all rational thought! I don't even... no seriously, I still can't even believe it, and that's considering the fact I've been spending all of my spare little moments responding to comments there over the past few days, it's just too much!

@Favo

Psshh I think I know better than to even try myself dear, believe me!

Well Monty Python is nothing if not perfectly random, and in any case I thank you very much for sharing that my friend! I confess when I see a llama I have a very hard time not thinking of The Emperor's New Groove, courtesy of my brother-in-law (the sci-fi geek I have mentioned before, who also adores that movie), though the mental image of you shouting at any random llamas you happen to come across will also now come to mind, no doubt!

Hah, oh yes and please do forgive any typos and grammatical errors in my posts tonight, my friends, of which I'm sure there are several... this is what I get for coming home from work only to sit here and write up all my replies when I'm so tired!
